"Thinking About Race" is a conversation about our closely held beliefs and attitudes concerning "other" racial and ethnic groups. We'll look at how these attitudes may be unconsciously nurtured and examine how such habits of mind can translate into real world societal structures, including those that result in patterns of economic and social segregation. Our panelists include Michelle Alexander, OSU associate professor of law and an associate of the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity; David Loy, former professor of ethics, religion and society at Xavier University and a zen teacher in the Sanbo Kyodan tradition; and john powell, OSU professor of law and executive director of the Kirwan Institute. Fred Andrle, an associate of the OSU Humanities Institute and former host of WOSU's Open Line, will moderate. Cosponsored by Ohio State's Humanities Institute, Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, and Wexner Center for the Arts. This program will be streamed live as part of the Humanities Institute's series of Conversations in the Humanities with Fred Andrle.
