"Pure poetry. 4 stars!"—Time Out New York Kids

"This exquisitely performed piece is so enchanting, they may never be content with your simple bedtime stories again."—New York Post

"There is a sense of otherworldliness about this enchanting piece of children's entertainment that's evident from the moment you step into the theatre with its tent-like canopy."—Daily Telegraph, Sydney

Inside a magical traveling theater tent, a storyteller shares an enchanting and timeless tale. Cheeseboy's home planet has been reduced to a bubbling fondue. Where are his parents? How did he become marooned on earth? Wondrous, funny, and achingly familiar, Cheeseboy’s journey leads him toward a new life filled with independence and new possibilities. Utilizing magic lantern–style shadow puppetry and ingenious “treasure boxes,” this poignant performance will touch young and old alike.

Slingsby Theatre Company is based in Adelaide, South Australia, and was founded in 2007. The company specializes in productions for tweens and young teens, according to the company, “because at this stage in their lives young people are beginning to grapple with the issues that they and we all grapple with for the rest of our lives.”

Family Activities
Please join us after the matinee performances on Saturday (2 PM) and Sunday (1 PM) for fun crafts for all ages to work on. You can make stick and sock puppets and help put on a show in a puppet theater (complete with audience seating). Families and kids can also illustrate and/or write their own stories to continue the tale of Cheeseboy and take them home in a small hand-bound book. Don’t forget to visit our “make your own mini-button” station and sign our giant guest book too.
