Walk-In Tours: Winter/Spring 2012

Make the most of your visit to our exhibitions. Take an informative, free Walk-In Tour.

As a special treat, the Walk-In Tour on Sunday, April 15 at 1 PM will be led by Christopher Bedford, the Wexner Center's Chief Curator of Exhibitions, and will feature the exhibition David Smith: Cubes and Anarchy. As he says, "these artworks will never be assembled again, so it’s no overstatement to say that this represents a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to experience the full depth and breadth of the most important American sculptor of the 20th century." Typically, your docent (tour guide) introduces some of the many highlights in our current exhibitions on each hour-long tour, while also encouraging you to ask questions and express your own ideas. The tours are scheduled at varied times, so you can find one to fit your busy schedule. They also are timed to complement other interesting and appealing events at the Wexner Center, so that you can easily sample different kinds of programs on one visit, if you like. Please note that the January 28 tour will be presented in Spanish.

Through April 2012, the tours introduce these three exhibitions.

David Smith: Cubes and Anarchy takes a fresh look at the famed sculptor’s work, focusing on his interest in geometry. The exhibition features a number of previously unexhibited works on paper.

In her film Points on a Line, Sarah Morris takes viewers to modernist landmarks by Philip Johnson and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe while investigating the connections and power structures that shape the built environment.

Ernst Caramelle's site-specific installation transforms the Wexner Center’s lower lobby into a three-dimensional painting.

David Smith: Cubes and Anarchy was organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and made possible by Alice and Nahum Lainer, the National Endowment for the Arts, Gagosian Gallery, and the Steven F. Roth Family Foundation. Additional support was provided by the Steaven K. and Judith G. Jones Foundation, Myron Laskin, Agnes Gund, Dorothy R. Sherwood, Terri and Michael Smooke, the Dedalus Foundation, Ellie and Mark Lainer, and the Lipman Family Foundation.

The exhibition’s presentation at the Wexner Center is supported by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities and a generous grant from the Jon and Mary Shirley Foundation.
