"An immersive depiction of a solitary, self-sufficient life."—New York Times

"A film that forces, and rewards, close attention."—Artforum

Part of a trend that includes the films of Pedro Costa and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, The Anchorage is a mesmerizing blend of documentary and fiction set on Sweden's Stockholm Archipelago. Recalling Chantal Akerman’s landmark Jeanne Dielman, the film follows the everyday existence of a lone woman (played by director Edström’s mother), filled with afternoon walks, wood chopping, and the cleaning of fish. The beautifully textured cinematography produces some of the most remarkable imagery in recent cinema. (88 mins., 35mm)
