We're honored that cofounder and president Marcus Hu of Strand Releasing is joining us for this evening's screenings.

Founded in 1989 by Hu and Jon Gerrans, Strand is one of the country's most esteemed distributors of challenging independent film, fusing quality art films with commercial product. The company has also long championed films that address queer themes and received a lifetime achievement award from Los Angeles Outfest for its ongoing commitment to gay and lesbian audiences and filmmakers. From France, The Man of My Life is one of Strand's most recent features. It's a bright, seductive story of three people enjoying themselves on a languorous, sun-dappled vacation: happily married couple Frederic and Frederique, and their new neighbor, Hugo, among whom a complicated friendship unexpectedly develops. Upon its debut at last year's Toronto Film Festival, director Breitman's film was hailed as "alert, adult, audacious…a transcendent study of what draws men together." With Charles Berling, Bernard Campan, Lea Drucker. (114 mins., 35mm)

Puccini for Beginners, another recent film distributed by Strand, screens at 9:30 PM.
