Likened by the New York Times to "a satire of Ordinary People directed by Alfred Hitchcock," Merci pour le chocolat is the latest assault on bourgeois propriety by New Wave veteran Claude Chabrol.

Set in lakeside Lausanne, Switzerland, Merci pour le chocolat is a moody suspense drama revolving around a family-controlled chocolate company that's headed by an inscrutable matriarch (Isabelle Huppert).

Board room politics are complicated by rumors of illegitimacy and mysterious servings of poisoned chocolate as neo-noir master Chabrol sustains his trademark blend of domestic desire and perpetual menace. (2000; 99 mins.)
