The first popular sound film produced in Mexico and a key film in the country’s history, Santa stars Lupita Tovar as a small-town girl whose life is ruined when she is abandoned by her soldier lover.

Tovar married Czech émigré producer Paul Kohner and begat a Hollywood dynasty that includes their daughter, actress Susan Kohner (Imitation of Life), and their writer-director grandsons Paul and Chris Weitz (About a Boy). In Spanish with English subtitles. (81 mins., 35mm)
