This special screening offers a stunning look at life during the civil war in Afghanistan.

Free reception before the screening, 6-6:50 pm, cosponsored by Ohio State's Middle East Studies Center and the Wexner Center.

Note: This film contains scenes of graphic brutality. Not recommended for children.

Introduced by Dr. Alam Payind, Director of Ohio State's Middle East Studies Center, Jung (War) offers a stunning, immediate look at life inside the Northern Alliance-held Panjshir Valley during Afghanistan's recent civil war.

Produced by three Italian filmmakers in 1999 and 2000, the film follows an Italian aid organization as it attempts to build a hospital for war victims. It offers an indispensable close-up look at the mujaheddin soldiers of the Northern Alliance (including Ahmed Shah Massoud, assassinated a few days before September 11). But its main focus is on the heroic efforts of relief workers trying to bring emergency aid to the thousands of suffering Afghans victimized by over two decades of brutality. (Video; 114 mins.)
