Art after Hours: Cabaret Jazz

wex grid image fill

"There are ordinary jazz piano trios and there is E.S.T."—The Times (London)

This intimate cabaret-style show is planned in conjunction with our Art after Hours program. Your ticket includes free admission to the Art after Hours party, hosted by 12º Circle, that kicks off the event at 5:30 pm. Scandinavia is one of today's hotbeds of jazz innovation. Now hear Sweden's E.S.T. (aka Esbjorn Svensson Trio), one of the most acclaimed bands on the European scene, on their debut U.S. tour.

Led by pianist Svensson, E.S.T. (like a number of European jazz artists) produce a sound that's unhampered by too-close ties to tradition. Far ranging in inspiration and ideas, E.S.T.'s joyous, highly original music can pull from gospel, folk, classical, children's lullabies, or post-rock for inspiration. Pick up their latest CD, Somewhere Else Before, now available on Columbia, for a preview of the new wave of jazz you'll hear up close in this cabaret-style show.

Be sure to arrive early for the Art after Hours party that kicks off this event at 5:30 pm. You'll enjoy a complimentary beverage, cash bar, and delicious hors d'oeuvres by Vito's Catering. Art after Hours events are presented by the Wexner Center's 12º Circle volunteer group. Proceeds benefit children's and family programs at the Wexner Center.
