Supernatural Strategies for Making a Rock ’n’ Roll Group

Wed, May 8, 2013 7 PM

Musician, author, and talk show host Ian F. Svenonius stops at the Wex on his book tour for Supernatural Strategies for Making a Rock ’n’ Roll Group.

Svenonius’s “how-to” book is sly, snarky, satirical, and often surprisingly on target—which might not be so surprising after all. He has created 18 albums and countless singles with Chain & the Gang, Weird War, the Make-Up, the Nation of Ulysses, and other combos and has interviewed such artists as Mark E. Smith, Genesis P. Orridge, Chan Marshall, and Ian MacKaye, as host of VBS.tv’s Soft Focus. He’s also written a previous underground best seller, The Psychic Soviet (Drag City Press, 2007). His take on a book tour presentation promises to be just as unusual as his book and may well draw on both his musical talents and the séance skills that ostensibly provide some of Supernatural Strategies’ insights.

After Svenonious's presentation, join him and Calvin Johnson (Beat Happening, Hive Dwellers) as they perform as Dub Narcotic Sound System at Skylab Gallery (57 E. Gay St. 5th Floor). The show starts at 9:00 PM and is all ages. A $5 suggested donation will be collected at the door. DJ Ukelaelia opens.
