Go behind the scenes with Wexner Center Artist Residency Award recipient Sarah Oppenheimer as she discusses S-337473—her new work commissioned especially for the Wex—with architecture professor Laurent Stalder. The free talk is part of our Winter Exhibitions Preview.
Sarah Oppenheimer has presented work in solo exhibitions at numerous institutions worldwide, including the Perez Art Museum, Miami; Drawing Center, New York; Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh; Saint Louis Art Museum; Baltimore Museum of Art; Kunsthaus Baselland; and Mudam, Luxembourg. She has received numerous prestigious awards including the Rome Prize Fellowship from the American Academy in Rome (2010–11); the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Fellowship (2009); and a Guggenheim Fellowship (2007). Oppenheimer’s studio is based in New York, and she also serves as a senior critic at the Yale School of Art. Born in 1972 in Austin, Texas, Oppenheimer received an MFA from Yale University.
Laurent Stalder has been professor for architectural theory at the gta Institute (Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture), ETH Zurich, Switzerland, since 2006. His research and publications focus on the history and theory of architecture from the 19th to the 21st centuries where it intersects with the history of technology. Stalder has authored studies of Hermann Muthesius (2008), Valerio Olgiati (2008), François Dallegret (2011), and Fritz Haller (2015), among other titles, and his articles have been published in various journals including AA Files, ARCH+, Bauen + Wohnen, Grey Room, Journal of Architecture, Werk, and the Zeitschrift für Kunstgeschichte.
