DIY: Collective is not your typical summer program. This July, ten 16-to-21 year old Wexner Center–program alumni undertook a two-week residency to conceptualize the Wex’s new education space. Honing in on the design challenge, students drafted proposals for teen-friendly floor plans, entryway art, and lounge furniture. For big-picture Columbus context and inspiration during the intensive, they trekked out to their favorite places in the city. Each DIY-er also contributed a page to their CBUS Design Week Ideabook. Created as part of the idUS initiative, Ideabooks ask city residents to envision Columbus’s future during its bicentennial year. You’ll have to wait a little longer to see the students’ ideas for the education space, but catch their ideas for Columbus here. Make sure to check it out along with hundreds others in person at the Ideabook exhibition on display at the Center for Architecture and Design starting Saturday, September 29.
