Earlier this week, more than 600 people joined us for the local premiere of Gabrielle Burton's Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens, an inspiring new documentary about Columbus's vibrant drag scene. Filled with candid interviews, hugely entertaining performance footage, and behind-the-scenes glimpses at the sweat, work, and devotion necessary to put on a show, it's a celebratory tribute to the scene, the performers, and Columbus itself. After each screening Gabrielle and performers from the film–including Nina West (Andrew Levitt), Virginia West, The Rev (Becky Harrison), Dr. Cool Ethan (Liz Balk), Sile Singleton, Julia Applegate & Liv Gjestvang, JAC Stringer, and many performers from the West drag family and the Royal Renegades–took part in lively conversations about the documentary as well as the past, present, and future of the Columbus scene and the ever-timely topics of identity and self-expression the picture examines. It was a great thrill to share the film with Columbus. Below are some photos from the evening (all taken by Brooke LaValley).
