To market, to market, one last time

We asked Jaime Moore—always-amiable, always-intrepid market manager for
The Market at 15th & High
outside the Wex, and a vendor at the market (
Wayward Seed Farm
)—to send her thoughts on the eve of the last market (this Thursday):
I measure the change of season from summer to fall in several ways—the first frost, the changing leaves, and the end of outdoor farmers' markets. As we near the end of our first season as the Market at 15th and High, we reflect on our successes and we look ahead at what this market could be.
By most accounts, this year was a great success. First and foremost, we've established a marketplace. (That in itself can be a real task, you know.) Secondly, in just a few short months, we've begun to fill a void in the community where neighbors, students, faculty, and staff can find fresh, local goods grown and produced within miles of the city. And finally, and probably most importantly, we've increased awareness, changed buying habits and inspired more people to contemplate the source of their food. The point is, we've changed something. And for that, we couldn't be happier!
As we're set to close our last market this Thursday, October 28th, you can bet we're already thinking about 2011! More vendors, more product diversity, more music, events, cooking demonstrations—these are just a few of the big ideas we are brewing for the seasons ahead. What would you like to see? What would you like to keep? How can we be better?
If you have an idea, please email us at
marketat15th@gmail.com
. We'll be working hard to make this market what you expect it to be, while remaining true to your market's mission: establishing a productive marketplace for both creators and consumers of fresh, local products.
Until next year,
Jaime Moore
