Those traveling this fall to Korea or Belgium (anybody?) can enjoy a second take on three exhibitions originating here at the Wexner. Following its appearance in Toronto and San Diego,
Sadie Benning
's
Play/Pause
double-screen animation, the centerpiece of her 2007 exhibition, is included in the 7th Annual Gwangju Biennale, Annual Report: A Year in Exhibitions, curated by Okwui Enwezor. Also selected for Gwangju is
Kerry James Marshall
's
Rhythm Mastr: Every Beat of My Heart
, seen here earlier this year. Both these projects (curated by Media Arts Associate Curator
Jennifer Lange
, and Education Director
Shelly Casto
, respectively) were developed through the
Residency Award
program, and while the presentation of each has been inevitably modified for its appearance in Gwangju (as traveling exhibitions generally are), it's gratifying to be able to set them loose into the larger conversation on global exhibition-making, not to mention affirming the institution's commitment to creative residencies.
Similarly, our 2007 exhibition,
Chris Marker: Staring Back
, after migrating to New York City and to Zurich, has now settled in at the Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen (MuHKA), where curator Edwin Carels has amplified the show with such rare materials as Marker' seldom-screened
Si j'avais quatre dromadaires
and a publication with newly-translated texts by the artist. Watch
the store
for this catalogue as well as the Gwangju Biennale's, both reminders of the salutary fact that there is a world elsewhere. --
