Admission to the galleries is free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month. On June 3, July 1, and August 5 you can see two stunning exhibitions. Omer Fast: 2001/11 juxtaposes two video installations made 10 years apart by an intriguing artist who was born in Jerusalem and now lives in Berlin. Viewed together, 5000 Feet Is the Best (a sensation at the 2011 Venice Biennale) and CNN Concatenated prompt thoughts about storytelling, authenticity, and authorship, as well as about the fast pace at which real experiences become part of history. Organized by the Wexner Center. Support provided by the Consulate General of Israel to the Mid-Atlantic Region. Alina Szapocznikow: Sculpture Undone, 1955–1972 includes a selection of the artist’s wide-ranging sculpture, which evokes such terms as “risky” and “audacious” and suggests comparisons to legendary artists such as Louise Bourgeois and Eva Hesse. Highly respected in her native Poland, her art has only recently become widely known and admired internationally. This touring exhibition is the first large-scale survey of the late artist’s work. Organized by WIELS Contemporary Art Centre, Brussels, and the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw, in collaboration with The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles.
