William Forsythe's Monster Partitur

See the U.S. premiere of this hybrid performance installation during the opening days of the exhibition William Forsythe: Transfigurations.

Dancer Alessio Silvestrin delivers a mesmerizing performance against a backdrop of sculptural elements created from life-size models of human skeletons and line drawings traced from these gnarled forms, which also serve as cues in the performer's score (the word "partitur" in the title is a reference to the musical scores utilized by orchestra conductors). Monster Partitur is a condensation of and companion to Forsythe's Bessie Award–winning You made me a monster.

Please arrive early to see the performance. Performances are free, but audience size is limited to approximately 50-60 viewers per performance, who will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. The performance is approximately 20-25 mins. in length (and seating is not provided).

You are also invited to attend symposium discussions in the Film/Video Theater from 3 to 5 PM on April 1.

Once the performance cycle is over, Monster Partitur will remain on view in Transfigurations as an installation work. The sculptural environment and Forsythe's riveting text, which introduces and underscores the work, create a charged space that evokes both presence and absence.

Student volunteers from Ohio State's Department of Dance are working with members of the Forsythe Company during the company's residency to produce this installation. See photos of the students at work on our flickr pages.


These performances are presented in conjunction with the exhibition William Forsythe: Transfigurations, which is made possible at the Wexner Center with support from the National Endowment for the Arts as part of American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius and from the Contemporary Art Centers network, administered by the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) , with major support from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and additional support from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
