Everything for Sale

Ashes and Diamonds made its star, Zbigniew Cybulski, into an arthouse heartthrob. Wajda dramatizes his premature death in Everything for Sale.

Ashes and Diamonds completes Wajda's trilogy about World War II. Set on the last official day of the war, it's a sobering tale of how young resistance fighters come to realize that their Nazi oppressors are being replaced by Soviet ones. (102 mins., 35mm)

Everything for Sale is the director's contribution to the late 1960s' subgenre of films about the filmmaking process itself. The character that stands in for Zbigniew Cybulski is played by Daniel Olbrychski, who would become a frequent Wajda collaborator. (97 mins., 35mm)

The Polish Cultural Institute, New York, organized this tour.
