ACCESSIBILITYWe strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. If you have questions about accessibility or require an accommodation such as CART captioning or ASL interpretation to participate in this event, please email accessibility@wexarts.org or call (614) 688-3890. Requests made by two weeks in advance will generally allow us to provide seamless access, but the Wexner Center for the Arts will make every effort to meet requests made after this date.
Acclaimed collaborative artist duo Gibson + Recoder visit with an expanded cinema performance using hand-blown glass to refract light from the projection of 35mm film.
Known for their performances transforming films into captivating sculptures of light, New York–based artists Gibson + Recoder join us for the first time at the Wex to present The Changeover System. The piece will use both of the Film/Video Theater’s 35mm projectors and introduce rotating hand-blown glass objects and other diffracting elements to bend, scatter, and distort the film’s image, redefining what cinematic film projection can be.
During this singular live performance, Gibson + Recoder will disappear into the projection booth—assisted by the Wex’s projectionist Rachael Barbash—to transform the film projector’s light into artistic material. Sandra Gibson and Luis Recoder have been collaborating since 2000, and their works are in the permanent collection of such major museums as the Whitney Museum of Art, Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, and Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf. (approx. 70 mins., 35mm)
