A blackly comic adaptation of American pulp writer Jim Thompson's Pop. 1280, Coup de torchon (Clean Slate) finds Huppert as the mistress of a corrupt police chief in colonial Senegal on the eve of World War II, living by her wits amid an atmosphere of misdirected passion and elaborate double-crossing.
