Deathdream

Bob Clark, 1972

A cult-classic, low-budget 1970s' horror film ripe for rediscovery! In an update of W. W. Jacob's short story "The Monkeyís Paw," a married couple receives news of their son's death in Vietnam just hours before he knocks on the front door. Because of the undead soldier's vampiric zombie tendencies, he has trouble reintegrating into his old environments.

Beyond the film's palpable sense of dread, Deathdream's allegorical aspects prompted the Village Voice to write, "There may not be a more quietly galling movie about the war's psychosocial devastation. [Director Bob] Clark's metaphoric nerve is astonishing!" With John Marley and Lynn Carlin—the central couple in John Cassavetes' Faces reunited! (90 mins.)

A short program of vintage horror trailers from the collection of Wexner Center projectionist Bruce Bartoo precedes the screening.
