Dummy Hoy: A Deaf Hero is the story of the first deaf baseball player in the major leagues. Born in Houcktown, Ohio, in 1862 and valedictorian at Columbus’s Ohio School for the Deaf, Hoy overcame numerous obstacles to become one of the greatest outfielders of his day. Despite his unique place in history and solid lifetime statistics (.288 lifetime batting average; 2,054 hits), Hoy has yet to be elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame to the dismay of his supporters. Screening will include subtitles. (50 mins., video)
