Meghan Hoffman Introduces Yojimbo (Akira Kurosawa, 1961)
Free to all audiences
Each year, the faculty of Ohio State’s Film Studies Program selects an exemplary piece of film criticism from entries submitted by undergraduate students. In addition to a monetary award, the winner is invited to select and introduce a film at the Wexner Center. This year’s winner, Meghan Hoffman, selected Akira Kurosawa’s samurai classic Yojimbo (1961). The film stars Toshiro Mifune as a samurai who comes to a town that is torn between two competing gangsters. The film served as the inspiration for Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars, with Clint Eastwood in the role played by Mifune. (110 mins, 35mm) Cosponsored with Ohio State’s Film Studies Program.
