The Fly

(Kurt Neumann, 1958)

Boy and man in front of a spider web

A perfect mix of black comedy and grotesque seriousness, the original version of The Fly sees a scientist’s matter-transference experiment go wrong, and he ends up swapping his head and arm with a fly’s head and claw (and vice versa). Needless to say, the attempts to reverse the process fail miserably and the scientist gradually goes insane, leading to an unforgettable finale. David Hedison stars as the scientist, with Vincent Price putting in a bravura performance as his brother. (94 mins., 2K DCP)
