The recipient of an Oscar nomination and the Best Screenplay award at Cannes, Footnote ranks among the most wildly inventive films of this decade. Presented with visual panache and exceptionally smart storytelling, the film follows the rivalry between father and son Eliezer and Uriel Shkolnik, both eccentric Talmudic scholars. Eliezer (Shlomo Bar Aba) is a stubborn purist who resents never receiving his due recognition, while Uriel (Lior Ashkenazi) receives endless accolades. Tables turn when Eliezer receives the prestigious Israel Prize for his scholarship and all sorts of dark and funny twists ensue. We’re thrilled to partner with the Columbus Jewish Film Festival to bring director Joseph Cedar (Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer, Time of Favor, and the HBO series Our Boys) to Columbus. (107 mins., DCP)
