Stream this affecting drama about two deeply intertwined childhood friends from indie filmmaker and respected critic Dan Sallitt. A portion of your ticket supports the Wex!

Mara and Jo have been close friends since middle school. Now in their 20s, the more outgoing Jo is a social worker who runs through a series of brief but intense relationships. The less splashy Mara bounces between teacher’s aide jobs while trying to land a position in elementary education, writing fiction on the side. Over time it becomes apparent that Jo, despite her intellectual gifts, is unreliable in her professional life, losing and acquiring jobs at a troubling rate. Substance abuse may be responsible for Jo’s instability, but some around her suspect a deeper problem.

Fourteen tracks the pair’s relationship over the course of a decade as Mara tries to navigate her powerful but difficult connection with her childhood friend. Don’t miss this “wonderful, subtly devastating film” (Little White Lies) featuring memorable performances from leads Norma Kuhling and Tallie Medel. (94 mins., digital video)

"It's rare in cinema to see such a fine-grained portrait of friendship, particularly a spiky female one."
