Harlan: In the Shadow of Jew Süss

This searing portrait investigates Viet Harlan, one of Germany’s most notorious filmmakers and the only artist from the Nazi era to be charged with war crimes.

Harlan’s most famous film, the incendiary anti-Semitic propaganda film Jew Süss, was required viewing for all SS members and is still banned from German movie theaters. (Harlan’s 1945 epic Kolberg was the basis for Inglourious Basterd’s crucial film-within-a-film, Nation’s Pride.)
