Hell House

George Ratliff, 2001

Each Halloween for the past 10 years, the Trinity Christian School outside Dallas has presented a "Hell House"--a spook show warning students of the perils of abortion, homosexuality, rave culture, and more. In this behind-the-scenes look at the Hell House phenomenon, Ratliff follows the entire process, from the first script meeting until the last of the year's 13,000 impressionable visitors emerge from the gruesome spectacle, shaken by a final stop in "Hell" where burning and suffering sinners beg them not to repeat their mistakes.

Hell Houses have become popular scare-fare among Christian church groups throughout the world, and the film gives an intimate portrait of the people who haunt this peculiar subculture. (85 mins.)
