Don't miss this bold, visually striking take on the Joan of Arc story from Bruno Dumont (L'humanité), featuring a memorable lead performance from 10-year-old star Lisa Leplat Prudhomme.
A provocative break from more conventional cinematic portraits of the sainted icon, Dumont's beautifully shot Joan of Arc depicts the last three years of the young martyr's life as she leads the King of France’s army against England, is captured, and finally burned at the stake by the Church, which accuses her of heresy. Prudhomme returns to the title role after depicting a very young Joan in Dumont's heavy metal–backed 2017 Jeannette. This sequel features a lush synth soundtrack by the recently passed singer/songwriter Christophe. (138 mins., digital video)
Join director Bruno Dumont for a free, virtual Q&A on Thursday, June 4, at 1 PM EDT moderated by film critic and curator Jordan Cronk (Acropolis Cinema, Locarno in Los Angeles) and hosted by KimStim. Click here to RSVP and receive your link to the discussion.
