This screening features films from the African countries of Mali and Algeria. Second feature start time: 9 pm. Kabala, a visually poetic find from Mali, examines a West African village that's torn between traditional customs and modern technologies. (Assane Kouyate, Mali, 2002; 112 mins.) The haunting Daughter of Keltoum focuses on the cultural shock that a young woman who was raised in Switzerland experiences when she returns to the arid mountains of Algeria to find her estranged mother.
