Leningrad Cowboys Go America, Juha

Preceded by Those Were the Days

wex grid image fill

Aki Kaurismaki's breakthrough film—Leningrad Cowboys Go America (1989)—and his most stylistically daring one, Juha (1999). The hilarious cult favorite that introduced Kaurismaki to the U.S., Leningrad Cowboys Go America (78 mins.) tracks the Siberian rock band Leningrad Cowboys as they travel across America, struggling with their English and their pointy pompadours. With Jim Jarmusch as a used car salesman.

Kaurismaki's most stylistically daring film, Juha (78 mins.) affectionately recreates a lost era of silent cinema in a classic tale of a tragic love triangle.

The Leningrad Cowboys also appear in and provide the music for the 1992 short Those Were the Days (6 mins.).
