Double Feature

wex grid image fill

Isabelle Huppert and Gerard Depardieu star in Loulou, which launched Pialat's reputation. The director himself appears, along with Sandrine Bonnaire in A nos amours.

Second feature start time: 9 pm. Pialat's international reputation began with Loulou. The film stars Isabelle Huppert as an apparently dutiful bourgeois wife whose world is turned upside down after an encounter with a leather-jacketed lout played by Gerard Depardieu. (1980; 110 mins.)

Making her screen debut in A nos amours, Sandrine Bonnaire plays a reckless teenager whose rebellious sexuality threatens to tear her family apart. Pialat himself plays her father. (1983: 102 mins.)

The Maurice Pialat retrospective was organized by the Film Society of Lincoln Center with the support of French Cultural Services (New York) and the Bureau du Cinema, Ministere des Affaires Etrangeres, Paris.
