"Minnelli's captivating musical still comes up as fresh as paint with each successive viewing, as charmingly, romantically nostalgic as an old valentine."—Time Out Film Guide One of the finest musicals ever made, Meet Me in St. Louis has been a beloved and heartwarming piece of Americana for generations. The film shows the life of a family--especially of the four daughters, the oldest played by Judy Garland and the youngest, Tootie, by scene-stealing Margaret O'Brien--at the dawn of the 20th century in the center of America. The daughters' world is turned upside down when the family plans to relocate to New York City where father has a better job waiting. The film takes place over the course of a year in four acts, each one vividly portraying the particular joys of a given season. The autumn "act" has a famous Halloween sequence, and the film closes in winter with Judy Garland's unforgettable performance of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." It's a perfect preface for the holiday season. (113 mins., 35mm) Join us in the lobby after the film for an ice cream social with free Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. The social will be even more meaningful after seeing the movie, as the girls in the film attend the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair and become obsessed with a delicious new invention unveiled there: the ice cream cone. Trailer: Need a Break? You'll find coffee, baked goods, and PB&J sandwiches at Cam's on Campus, open today from 9 AM to 2 PM. And don't forget to visit the Wexner Center Store, for toys, gifts, and books for all ages. The 2008 festival was organized by Chris Stults, assistant curator of film/video, and Dionne Custer, educator for school programs.
