Winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in the year of its release, Ermanno Olmi’s masterpiece The Tree of Wooden Clogs is a visually lush, sensual, and moving recreation of late-19th century Italian farm life. Local nonactors were asked to portray the lives of their ancestors in this story of four families working the land on a wealthy landowner’s Bergamo estate. (186 mins., 4K DCP)
