"Engrossing...offers fascinating ethnographic detail, gentle humor, and spectacular cinematography."—Alissa Simon, Variety

This Cannes prize-winner is set in the vast, empty steppes of southern Kazakhstan and almost feels like a documentary about that harsh, awe-inspiring region. Yet it is also an entertaining and beautiful narrative film with a story that follows a young nomad who dreams of winning the affection of the only eligible bachelorette for miles, becoming a shepherd, and starting his own yurt. Populated by adorable lambs, stampeding camels, mischievous children, mewing kittens and featuring one of the most remarkable animal birth scenes ever captured on film, Tulpan is transporting and delightful. (100 mins., 35mm)
