"Gripping, grotesque and deliriously good.… The most exciting contemporary Irish playwright."—Sunday Tribune As the National Theatre of Ireland, Abbey Theatre in Dublin has a long and distinguished track record of supporting promising talent and daring new productions. Playwright Mark O'Rowe, who first gained wide attention as the writer of the hit play Howie the Rookie and the cult film Intermission, is a case in point. His lyrical and lacerating poetic language soars through the visceral show TERMINUS. As the spotlights slice the dark stage, you’ll catapult from the bustling streets to the skies above Dublin, then plummet deep into the bowels of the earth, as three people are ripped from their daily lives and thrown into a fantastical world of singing serial killers, avenging angels, and lovesick demons. This international hit is a breathtaking rollercoaster of high-impact emotions, black humor, and brilliant acting not intended for the faint of heart. O'Rowe imaginatively interweaves the stories of his three characters—called A, B, and C—in successive monologues that chart their violent collision course with wickedly funny and shocking twists. As Edinburgh Magazine's reviewer put it, "Both incisively simple and deliciously complex, Mark O'Rowe's exquisite TERMINUS is bold ambitious storytelling at its absolute best…. Absolutely stunning." TERMINUS is intended for mature audiences. The U.S. tour of TERMINUS is supported by Imagine Ireland, an initiative of Culture Ireland. The Abbey Theatre is supported by The Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Éalaoín.
