"Gingras' beautifully oppressive solo sketches a dreadful yet comical-absurd scenario of the future."—Westdeutsche Zeitung Discover the fresh talent of AndrÈ Gingras, a young Canadian choreographer based in Holland. AndrÈ Gingras has greatly impressed audiences abroad with intimate dance theater pieces that incorporate digital media imagery to strong effect. Working with video artist Fabio Iaquone, also known for his fascinating work with vanguard director Robert Wilson, Gingras contributes recombinant multilayers of detailed small movements and edgy physicality to the digital-age concepts. CYP17, the solo work that launched Gingras's reputation as a rising talent, takes place within a clinical white cube. The performer/subject is immersed in a world of futuristic conspiracy that might have been imagined by William Burroughs. There his identity is threatened via information overload, cloning, and genetic manipulation experiments. Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung praised CYP17's compelling portrayal and its use of digital media, noting that the work employs multimedia as "a new, versatile tool amongst others—an artistic instrument, not a hollow central-point." support credits Dance season presented by Huntington.
