"Charles Lloyd is a rare original."
--L.A. Times

Sixties' jazz-rock pioneer Charles Lloyd reemerges for his finest hour with a new CD and new band featuring pianist Geri Allen and guitarist John Abercrombie. Memphis-born tenor sax and flute player Charles Lloyd was a pioneer in the sixties' jazz-rock scene, playing at the famed Fillmore in San Francisco and bringing jazz to the flower power generation. Embracing Buddhism, he then embarked on extended personal retreats that took him away from the professional music world for 20 years.

Since his reemergence in the nineties with a series of stunning recordings for Germany's ECM Records (the most recent being the moving masterwork Lift Every Voice), Lloyd has not only reconnected with former fans but gained legions of new devotees who savor the rhapsodic intensity of his questing sound.

As a testament to his enduring stature as a true original voice in jazz, Lloyd has enlisted all-star support for his current ensemble, and he's joined by noted artists such as guitarist John Abercrombie and pianist Geri Allen, as well as a solid rhythm section featuring Bob Hurst on bass and drummer Eric Harland.

The local debut of the Charles Lloyd Quintet promises to be a major highlight of this season's active jazz calendar--don't miss this night!

Due to an OSU home football game, the concert start time may be delayed. Check with the ticket office to confirm showtime that week.
