The final installment of her Wex-supported movement trilogy, Faye Driscoll’s Thank You for Coming: Space is a shared rite of passage that invites us to confront life’s final flourishing and our potential for both the grotesque and the sublime.
The work unfolds within an intimate installation that’s wired for sound and upheld by ropes, pulleys, and the weight of others. Appearing alone with the audience, the Bessie Award–winning performance-maker builds a moving requiem for the human body through an alchemy of gesture, object, voice, and live sound, conjuring a world that’s alive and forever changeable.
Like the other critically acclaimed works in Driscoll’s Thank You for Coming series—Attendance (2014) and Play (2016)—Space summons the unnamed forces that surge between the viewer and the viewed in order to create a communal realm where our experiences are heightened, questioned, and made palpable.
Thank You for Coming: Space was supported through a Wexner Center Artist Residency Award. Thank You for Coming: Attendance was presented at the Wexner Center in 2016. Thank You for Coming: Play, supported by an Artist Residency Award, premiered at the Wexner Center in 2016.
