This timely choreographic work by Netta Yerushalmy—introduced live by the artist on March 23—offers a new way to experience dance in the virtual realm.
Documenting an unauthorized outdoor live performance at Manhattan’s East River Park Amphitheater on September 3, 2020, this video project attempts to preserve a dance made in real space and refocus it for an audience online. Filmed during an ongoing global health crisis while confronting the deep inequities and unbalanced power structures embedded in every system, this evolving dance work is a time capsule that we are still living in. Editor and director Jeremy Jacob uses footage of the performance alongside animation, digital design, and high-quality photography by Maria Baranova to introduce a new way to experience dance virtually: a bridge between forms as we bridge time and new realities.
Yerushalmy introduces the presentation live on March 23 starting at 5 PM EST; Distant Dance Demonstration remains on our site through April 13.
