DJ, producer, and composer Moxy Martinez takes us on sonic journey that begins with the real-time creation of new patches on Moog Mother 32 modular synthesizers and concludes with a short performance.
Moxy Martinez (aka Osea Merdis) has produced, performed, and DJd music internationally since 2003. Highlights of Moxy's career include DJing the Rencontres Trans Musicales festival in France; being hand-selected by visual artist Tom Sachs as an audio contributor for his retrospective show at The Contemporary Austin; contributing original music to Andrew Ina and Stephanie Rond’s Emmy-nominated documentary Tiny Out Loud; and founding the Columbus Synth Slam event. Notable current highlights include performing original music for The Columbus Dance Theater's "Homegrown" event in March 2020 and producing the Wex-supported live performance Say a Little Prayer: An Aretha Franklin Celebration in February 2020 with Counterfeit Madison.
Donate to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute today The artist requests that viewers who wish to send tips for the performance donate to The Marsha P. Johnson Institute (MPJI), which defends the human rights of BLACK transgender people. By organizing and advocating, MPJI works to create a community that heals, develops transformative leadership, and promotes our collective power. Donate today!
More about Wex[EP] As today's vocabulary has expanded to include "social distancing" and "essential businesses," the Wex has entered into a conversation with some of our favorite local artists to bring you Essential Performances. With a nod to the short-form, often experimental nature of extended-play records, the Wex[EP] series seeks to document a facet of each artist's practice and explore innovative ways of communing with one another during this rupture of routine.
Join us on Thursdays as we chart a better tomorrow with the thinkers, players, movers, and makers to whom we continue to look for joy and inspiration. If you are able, please consider supporting each artist by using the links located on this page.
