Wex[EP]: Noah Demland

One Mallet in Front of the Other

Virtual

Tune in as percussionist Noah Demland demonstrates the art of composition and creative perseverance in this free Wex[EP] performance.

At a time marked by pandemic and protest, it can be difficult to summon the energy and focus to support an artistic practice. But when the mind feels scattered and overwhelmed, the hands can lead. Join Demland for a look at how the processes he uses to compose percussion music can help push through creative inertia and make meaning out of uncertainty.

Noah Demland is a classically trained percussionist as well as a writer, queer zine veteran, educator, and Ohio State alum. Informed by his musical background that spans drumming in punk bands to playing tympani in orchestras overseas, his work is rooted in the cracks between rock and classical, noisy and nuanced, fierce and formal, scrappy and sentimental.

More about Wex[EP]
As today's vocabulary has expanded to include "social distancing" and "essential businesses," the Wex has entered into a conversation with some of our favorite local artists to bring you Essential Performances. With a nod to the short-form, often experimental nature of extended-play records, the Wex[EP] series seeks to document a facet of each artist's practice and explore innovative ways of communing with one another during this rupture of routine.

Join us on Thursdays as we chart a better tomorrow with the thinkers, players, movers, and makers to whom we continue to look for joy and inspiration. If you are able, please consider supporting each artist by using the links located on this page.
