“Arguably the best bassist in jazz.”—Boston Globe
Contemporary jazz giant and recent Grammy Award-winner Dave Holland returns to Columbus with his octet on Saturday, March 25 at 8 pm in Weigel Hall (1866 College Rd.), in a show presented by the Wexner Center. The acclaimed bassist will also share the stage with special guest Trilok Gurtu, an Indian percussion master. A reception for those attending the performance will be held in Mershon Auditorium Lobby at 6 pm. Tickets for the Dave Holland Octet are $20 for the public and $17 for Wexner Center members and students, and are available at the Wexner Center Ticket Office (614 292-3535) and Ticketmaster (614 431- 3600 or Ticketmaster.com).
The concert begins with a special set of duets featuring Holland and Gurtu. Gurtu’s motto of “we make bridges, not barriers” defines Gurtu’s adventurous, pan-global approach and collaborative spirit. Then Holland’s octet—which features players such as Chris Potter (also returning to the Wex) on tenor sax, Antonio Hart on alto sax, and Robin Eubanks on trombone—will close out the evening with its stellar brand of hard-hitting bop, improvisation, and well-crafted melody.
