Columbus, OH—January 18, 2013—Calling all film and video makers! The Wexner Center is now accepting submissions for the Ohio Shorts 2013 juried short-film and video showcase, for both the adult and youth divisions. Entries for this event will be accepted through Friday, March 22 at 5 pm. Selected entries for the Youth Division will be screened Monday, April 15, beginning with a party at 6 pm in the Heirloom café, with the screening following in the center’s Film/Video Theater. The Adult Division screening will be on Saturday, April 20 at 7 pm in the Film/Video Theater, with a reception in the café space afterward.
This annual Ohio Shorts competition is intended to provide Ohio's independent filmmakers with the opportunity to show their work in a theatrical setting before an audience. Last year’s showcase brought in entries from around the state, ranging from traditional filmmaking narratives to experimental works to animations. Works will be selected by a diverse jury of media professionals, artists, and Wexner Center staff.
Entries must be 20 minutes or less in length for the adult division and 5 minutes or less in the youth division. All pieces must have been produced in Ohio within the last 18 months.
ADULT DIVISION OVERVIEW: Pieces must be independently produced, no longer than 20 minutes, and produced in Ohio within the last 18 months. Entries must be submitted on DVD (either as an authored disc or as data file) or by Vimeo or YouTube URL link and must be accompanied by an entry form. Only one entry per person is permitted. Previously submitted works will not be accepted. Works to be included in the showcase will be selected by a panel of Wexner Center staff and outside judges. New to this year’s festival: A $300 Jury Award and a $200 Audience Choice award, both of which will be announced at the reception after the screening.
The 2013 Ohio Shorts screening takes place on Saturday, April 20 at 7 pm in the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. Each person whose work is selected for the showcase will receive two complimentary tickets for the screening. For questions or for more information, email ohioshorts@wexarts.org.
YOUTH DIVISION OVERVIEW: Pieces must be independently produced, no longer than 5 minutes, and produced in Ohio within the last 18 months by an artist who will be 18 years of age or younger at the time of the showcase. Submissions will be accepted via YouTube, DVD and flash drive. First, second, and third prizes will be awarded by our jurors, and screening attendees will select the winner of our Audience Choice award. The Youth Division screening party, which will include food, music, and a photo booth, will take place on Monday, April 15 at 6 pm in Heirloom, the Wexner Center café, followed by the showcase screening in the Film/Video Theater at 7 pm. Each person whose work is selected for the showcase will receive two complimentary tickets for the party and the screening.
