It’s been a record-breaking season for the Wexner Center’s Wex Drive-in Outdoor Film Fest so far this summer, with hundreds of people attending the June and July events. Two more free Drive-ins are coming up: the sci-fi classic 20 Million Miles to Earth on August 21 on the Wexner Center Plaza, and then the series goes downtown for the first time with The Talk of the Town, a romantic comedy about justice starring Cary Grant, on the Statehouse West Plaza (outdoors) on August 28. Details below.
INFO for AUGUST 21 WEX DRIVE-IN
WHAT: Wex Drive-In outdoor film and party, featuring the 1957 sci-fi film 20 Million Miles to Earth. It tells the tale of the first spaceship to Venus, which returns with an unexpected passenger: a Venusian in pupa form that grows into the rampaging giant "Ymir." Featuring the stop-motion talents of Ray Harryhausen, the film climaxes in a fantastic showdown between the military and the monster atop Rome’s Coliseum. Free food will be offered starting around 8 pm, including: Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and popcorn from Pam’s Popcorn. A cash bar will be provided by Barley’s Brewing and Boss Dogs will be selling hot dogs, burgers, and more. Wex Drive-in mugs available free for members, and can be purchased by non-members. Bring chairs and blankets.
WHEN: Thursday, August 21. Party starts at 8 pm. Film starts at dusk (around 9 pm). Film run time: 82 mins.

CALENDAR INFO for AUGUST 28 WEX DRIVE-IN DOWNTOWN
WHAT: Wex Drive-In Downtown outdoor film and party, featuring The Talk of the Town, a 1942 romantic comedy about justice, directed by George Stevens and starring Cary Grant, Jean Arthur, and Ronald Coleman. Stevens crafts a satisfying and suspenseful film by blending the playfulness of 1930s screwball comedies into the socially conscious debates of 1940s dramas. Coleman, as a law professor in line for the Supreme Court, and Grant, as an accused arsonist, spar politically and romantically, as both fall for Arthur’s small-town teacher. Free Jeni’s Splendid
Ice Creams will be available. Catering by Design, the Ohio Statehouse caterer, will also have a cash bar and grilled items for purchase. Wex Drive-in mugs available free for members, and can be purchased by non-members. Bring chairs and blankets.
WHEN: Thursday, August 28. Party starts at 8 pm. Film starts at dusk (around 9 pm). Film run time: 118 mins. In the event of rain, this screening will be canceled.
WHERE: Ohio Statehouse West Plaza (on the High Street side of the building).
PARKING: Parking is available in the garage beneath the Statehouse.
OTHER EVENTS THAT NIGHT: The evening of August 28 is shaping up to be a late-summer mini-festival. OSU’s Urban Arts Space in the historic Lazarus building at 50 W. Town St. is offering Art Builds Bridges on the occasion of the art exhibitions Ways of Knowing Water and What Time is This Place. The evening includes a community dialogue from 4 to 6 pm titled “When Art Builds Bridges: Art, Environment, and Community” focusing on the place of art and river ecology in the reinvention of civic identity. A wine tasting featuring organic and biodynamic wines will be held 6–8 pm; informal gallery tours will be offered at 6 and 6:15 pm; and tours of the building’s “green” rooftop garden will be offered at 7 and 7:30 pm. All events are free except for the wine tasting. Call (614) 292-8861 for information or go to uas.osu.edu.
In addition, free live music featuring the band Conspiracy will begin at 5:30 pm (‘til 9 pm) in Derby Court outside the Hyatt on Capitol Square (corner of State and Third streets), as part of the Downtown LIVE! summer concert series.
Show up early for the movie and enjoy a surprise unveiling around 8:30 p.m.
