Artist's Talk Cory Arcangel

Best known for his hacked Nintendo cartridges, Cory Arcangel works in a variety of media--from video to sound to the Internet--to examine the relationship between technology, culture, and creativity. Arcangel's art often takes such popular icons as Super Mario Bros. and Guns & Roses and hijacks this cultural "source code" to create a new aesthetic experience. He is known for adding performative and musical elements to his artist's talks and for this afternoon's talk, he'll be bringing a glockenspiel to accompany selected songs off of Bruce Springsteen's album Born to Run with newly created arrangements. Another highlight of the talk will be Arcangel's detailed audio-visual analysis of creatively modified footage from Simon & Garfunkel's famous 1981 Central Park concert. Arcangel's work has been exhibited at the 2004 Whitney Biennial, American Museum of the Moving Image, Tate Britain, and Team Gallery.
