Ernst Caramelle, a Wexner Center Artist Residency Award recipient for 2011‒12, returns to the Wex to discuss his site-specific wall painting for our lower lobby and other recent works. Composed of geometric forms rendered in delicate watercolor hues, the installation uses deceptively simple means to transform and complicate this familiar space. By examining and accentuating the geometry of the Wexner Center’s architecture, Caramelle also summons up the interrelated questions of perception and phenomenology that have occupied him since the 1970s. Born in 1952 in Tirol, Austria, the artist has taught at the Karlsruhe Art Academy in Karlsruhe, Germany, since 1994. He now divides his time between Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, and New York. His installation remains on view through July 1. For those that cannot join us, this event will be streamed live online.
