Collage to Paint with Melissa Vogley Woods

You’ll make large collage/assemblage pieces (incorporating magazine images, maps, newspaper, wire, metal ribboning, etc.) that inspire a painting. Finally, you’ll learn how to integrate collage/assemblage and painting techniques to make a totally new work.

Melissa Vogley Woods lives and works as an artist and curator here in her hometown of Columbus. Melissa makes her artwork by overlaying images; either by drawings on photographs, cutting and stacking quilt fragments, drawing with paint on transparent fabrics, combining textile imagery, and images of urban decay. She is active in the Columbus arts scene and has worked with a number of teen collectives and high schools on projects such as public murals, community art projects, street performances, and workshops.

Registration fees are just $95 per student, per workshop for the general public. Wexner Center members save: members' registration is just $75 per student, per workshop.

Locations and Equipment
All classes will meet on the Ohio State campus. Students will receive confirmation information and directions to the drop-off point for each workshop via e-mail.

In our computer classes students will work on Macintosh laptops. Students are welcome to bring digital cameras from home for photography-related classes, but please remember to include the cord, battery-charging system, and an empty memory chip. If you don’t have a camera—no worries, we will loan you one!

Changes and Cancellations
Dates and times are subject to change. The Wexner Center reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment without incurring obligations. If a class is canceled, you may transfer to another class or request a full tuition refund. If you withdraw from a summer workshop up to seven days before the event, you will receive a full refund less a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given after that time.
