An authority on urban Jewish life, Professor Deborah Dash Moore will speak on Imaging Gotham: New York Photographers at Mid-Century, which explores the rise of a generation of Jewish photographers, many born on rough city streets, and how this coincided with the expansion of photography at mid-century. Dr. Moore is the Frederick G. L. Huetwell Professor of History at the University of Michigan and Director of the Jean and Samuel Frankel Center for Judaic Studies, and specializes in twentieth century American Jewish history. Among her awards is an honorary doctorate from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. Several of her books have won awards including the Saul Viener Prize for the best book in American Jewish history (twice) and the National Jewish Book Award (twice). A reception will follow. Cosponsored by Ohio State’s Melton Center for Jewish Studies.
