Interventionist Theatre Symposium

In "interventionist theater," people living in areas affected by conflict work with theater professionals to develop collaborative works that address their personal experiences. This symposium is presented as part of a collaborative university program titled Identity Formation in the Arab World. The symposium begins with a screening of the documentary film The Last Enemy, an Israeli/Palestinian collaboration. A roundtable discussion follows with three interventionist theater practitioners who have worked extensively in occupied Palestine: Dr. Jim Mirrione of the Creative Arts Team at New York University; Louay Assaf, Iraqi puppeteer; and Sami Mitwassi, Palestinian actor.

Interventionist theater, an emerging field within theater studies, encourages people living in conflict areas to develop new collaborative work generated from their personal experience and workshops with theater specialists. The symposium is presented as part of a collaborative university program titled Identity Formation in the Arab World.
